Every October, the hockey world blesses us with two things: the start of the NHL season and, of course, the team Halloween parties. Mark Messier recently spoke about the famous team parties with The Score, “It brings out people’s personalities [...] one of those things that you can all go back to the dressing room for the next couple of weeks and talk about.” He believes that the “team-galvanizing experience” of the parties “are critical to a team’s success” (The Score).
Igor Shesterkin and his significant other have already graced us with a couples costume look, complete with a reenactment of the Pulp Fiction dance scene. In the back of the video that Shesterkin’s wife, Anna, shared, you can see a smiling Artemiy Panarin in what looks like a green jumpsuit from Top Gun.

Although the only other post we got from the party this year was from forward, Kevin Rooney’s significant other’s Instagram showcasing their Austin Powers couples costumes, we have more than enough from past parties to revisit!
In 2016, the organist for the New York Rangers, Raymond Castoldi, joined in on the Halloween fun by dressing as the Phantom of the Opera on game night.
Michael Grabner and his wife dressed up as Khal Drogo and Daenerys from Game of Thrones. The following year, Kevin Shattenkirk jumped on the Game of Thrones costume train and was the famous Night King. In an interview with NHL, he said Jon Snow and Daenerys were his favorite characters. Having not seen the entirety of the costume, it is Shattenkirk’s decision to get special effects makeup that show he was truly committed to the bit.
That same party, Jimmy Vesey, Brady Skjei and Kevin Hayes came in as three blow-up dinosaurs. The DJ of the night was Mika Zibanejad wearing a TuneSquad uniform from Space Jam, which was fitting. Steve Kampfer dressed up as Princess Leia. But standing beside Kampfer is, my personal favorite, Henrik Lundqvist as an Ikea bag rocking his Swedish colors.

Other costumes from this year began trickling in on social media late into the evening on Halloween so we had to hold out for that content. My personal favorite being this trio doing a Monsters Inc. look. Like we needed further proof that Lindgren and Fox were bros for life.
Ryan Reaves and his wife Alanna also had one of the funniest costume sets in their chicken and KFC colonel looks.
If that all wasn’t enough, the MSG team did not mess around when it came to their broadcast costumes on Halloween. I think we can all agree Henrik Lundqvist could wear just about anything and make it work, but a Viking was a great choice.
The Rangers also introduced us to their new locker room talk show ‘Off the Boards with the Ryans.’ The first episode being Halloween themed and detailing previous costumes, best and worst Halloween candies, and what Kaapo Kakko should dress up as this year. Ryan Lindgren serves as a great host, though I’m assuming we will also get to see Ryan Reaves behind the mic as well.
The best way the Rangers celebrated Halloween was beating the Seattle Kraken in their first ever matchup 3-1 to begin their west coast road trip (but the costumes certainly didn’t hurt either). Let us know what your favorites were, or if you were hockey-inspired yourself this Halloween, share your pictures with us!
