Rangers vs. Kings: Reimed Out

Without Igor Shesterkin, how much can the Rangers really fix? Monday’s loss to Los Angeles raised some uncomfortable questions about where this season is headed.

  • Eric asked me to write the game notes for this one. As a lovely, helpful human, I wanted to help him. Joke's on me—I should have said no. Watching the game Monday night was painful.
  • The New York Rangers honored Ron Duguay during the evening, showing a touching tribute to the former Ranger, who recently died, as the crowd cheered for him and his family.
  • Adam Fox played in his 500th game Monday night. Time flies, but the hometown hero racked up points quickly and is in excellent company.
  • James Reimer as a New York Ranger? We've fallen far, folks. Also, it embarrasses me to say this, but I've been pronouncing his name incorrectly for well over a decade.
  • Things Reimer and I have in common:
    • We both wake up in pain every day just from being past our prime
    • We both do not have a win for the Rangers
    • We have both failed to record a save on the first two shots faced for the Rangers
    • Neither of us has played a full game for the Rangers
    • Our hips could use some WD-40
    • Neither of us should be starting an NHL game
  • Monday night also marked former Rangers head coach Peter Laviolette's return to Madison Square Garden, and the crowd gave him some light, polite applause.
