Game #37: Pittsburgh Penguins vs New York Rangers Open Thread

After getting taken to overtime twice in a row by the lowly Buffalo Sabres, David Quinn’s squad has its work cut out for it tonight. Tristan Jarry, Casey DeSmith, and the rest of the Pittsburgh Penguins are in town to play the Rangers in a two game set starting tonight, with the second game taking place two days from now.

Vitali Kravtsov made his NHL debut on Saturday, and will remain in the lineup skating on a line with Kevin Rooney and Phil Di Giuseppe. The Russian rookie was dead last among the team’s skaters in ice time against Buffalo, but he should earn more minute tonight as he continues his adjustment to the NHL.

Player to Watch: Colin Blackwell

Blackwell has been the biggest surprise for the Rangers this season. Signed to a two year, two way deal to serve as veteran AHL depth and expansion draft fodder, Blackwell has made the most of his early season promotion from the taxi squad. His nine goals and thirteen points are already a career high, and he’ll get a great opportunity to improve those numbers as he skates alongside Artemiy Panarin and Ryan Strome tonight. Look for Blackwell to make the most of his time in New York’s top six forwar group.

Enjoy the game!
