Rangers Recall F Boo Nieves and G Alexandar Georgiev

The New York Rangers have recalled forward Boo Nieves and goaltender Alexandar Georgiev, the team announced Sunday afternoon.

Nieves, 25, was originally sent down to the Hartford Wolf Pack on January 19th following the Rangers’ 3-2 victory over the Boston Bruins, which was the team’s final contest before their mandatory bye week, which coincided with the NHL’s All-Star break.

Georgiev, 22, was sent down the day prior, with Marek Mazanec serving as the club’s backup against the Bruins.

For both men — neither of whom required waivers — the assignments were effectively paper transactions designed to keep them playing through the break.

Notably missing from this recall announcement, however, is defenseman Ryan Lindgren, who was sent back along with Nieves. Lindgren was told that his assignment wasn’t a demotion, but with Neal Pionk set to return from injury this week, it’s likely the Rangers would rather Lindgren continue to play for Hartford for the time being, rather than play relegated minutes with the Blueshirts, if he were to play at all.
