NHL Free Agency 2020: Rangers ink Colin Blackwell

Colin Blackwell, who split the 2019-20 season between the Nashville Predators and the Milwaukee Admirals (AHL) has signed a two-year deal with the New York Rangers. In all likelihood, he will bolster the roster of the Hartford Wolf Pack but could compete for the role of 13th forward on the Rangers depending on how the rest of the chips fall in free agency and, of course, in training camp.

Blackwell, 27, was nearly a point-per-game player in the AHL last year in 26 games and picked up 10 points (3 goals, 7 assists) in 27 games in the NHL. All told, he has 33 games of NHL experience. He played his college hockey at Harvard and was the 194th pick of the 2011 Draft by the San Jose Sharks.

Prior to the news of Blackwell’s signing, the Rangers signed another organizational depth forward in Kevin Rooney. Like Rooney, Blackwell is a center. He took 66 draws for the Predators last season and won 56.1 percent of them.
