Rangers Vs. Blue Jackets Recap: Rangers Sweep Home-And-Home Series Against The Blue Jackets

The New York Rangers won their third straight game this evening as they swept the home-and-home series against the Columbus Blue Jackets and improved to 3-0-0. I feel like this is quickly becoming a trend early in this season, as Henrik Lundqvist played out of his mind once again. Even though the Jackets beat him twice late in the game, The King made several jaw dropping saves tonight that I'm still not even sure how he made.

It would be wrong of me not to mention Oscar Lindberg as well, because he is on an absolute tear right now and added two more goals tonight. Combine all of that with three goals in the opening five minutes and the crowd at Madison Square Garden was certainly rocking early in this game.

Oscar Lindberg got the party started early in this game and tapped in a rebound generated by Kevin Hayes to give the Rangers a 1-0 lead. The one-handed move by Hayes pulled Sergei Bobrovsky out of position that by the time Lindberg got to the rebound, all he had to do was hit the empty net. Lindberg wouldn't stop just there though as he added his second goal of the night about four minutes later.

Viktor Stalberg got everything started with a beautiful takeaway from William Karlsson which allowed J.T. Miller to swoop in and collect the lose puck. Miller quickly dished the puck across to Lindberg who was cutting to the net and the puck deflected in off of Lindberg's skate. The Rangers wound up adding yet another goal about 36 seconds later coming from Dominic Moore.

Moore deflected Jarret Stoll's saucer pass out of mid-air and beat Bobrovsky just under the arm to make it 3-0 Rangers. Following the early surge by the Rangers, the game kind of settled down until late in the second period when Derick Brassard extended the Rangers lead to four goals. Derek Stepan tallied another goal 1:26 into the third period to pretty much seal the game up for the Rangers with them leading 5-0.

The Blue Jackets eventually ended Henrik Lundqvist's shutout bid with two late goals coming from Ryan Johansen and Boone Jenner. Despite not playing their best hockey yet, the Rangers are rolling right now and will look to extend their streak on Tuesday as they welcome in the Winnipeg Jets.
