Stanley Cup Final Game One: Los Angeles Kings vs New Jersey Devils
Well...here we are folks; the NHL has reached the top of the mountain and are heading towards the summit starting tonight.
The Los Angeles Kings have been steamrolling through the Western Conference having only played 13 games this post season and have looked like world beaters in taking care of the 1 seeded Vancouver Canucks, the 2 seeded St. Louis Blues and the 3 seeded Phoenix Coyotes all in quick (no pun intended) fashion going 4-1, 4-0, 4-1 in their three series.
The New Jersey Devils have run into a little bit more competition than the Kings; they started off with the #3 seeded Florida Panthers and needed 7 games to take care of the Sunshine Cats. Next came the Philadelphia Flyers, who were coming off of a 6 round circus where everyone and their mother was able to score a goal, and the Devils took care of them easily in 5 games. Then someone somewhere in the swamps of New Jersey divided by zero and the Devils somehow won the Eastern Conference Finals.
So, after four days off for the Devils and almost a year and a half for the Kings, both teams get set to fight for the greatest prize in sports and to be named the best team in hockey for the 2011-12 season.
Player to watch for the Kings:
Jon Quick wasn't his strongest against the Yotes so look to him to get his game back on the big stage tonight.
Player to watch for the Devils:
Ilya Kovalchuck has been proving a lot of doubters wrong this post season and has been the deadly weapon that New Jersey thought he could be.
My bold prediction for tonight's game? Devils win 4-2
