Tony DeAngelo Out 3-4 Weeks With a Sprained Ankle, Season Likely Over

During Monday night’s game against the Carolina Hurricanes, defenseman Tony DeAngelo fell awkwardly into the boards and headed to the locker room early:

The injury looked bad at a first glance, and the Rangers confirmed that DeAngelo will be sidelined for a majority of the team’s final games:

The team recalled Ryan Sproul yesterday to fill the void left by DeAngelo. As such, the Rangers defense corps will likely be comprised of Sproul, Brady Skjei, Marc Staal, Neal Pinok, John Gilmour and Rob O’Gara for the remainder of the season. A three week recovery period would put DeAngelo on track to return for the team’s final road trip of the season, but the the Rangers have no reason to rush him back to play a couple of meaningless games down the stretch. With that, Deangelo’s first season on Broadway has most likely come to a close.
